Ben grew up in Elk River, MN. Skied on the high-school team, then went to college at the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he graduated with a degree in Graphic Design.
In Duluth, Ben was a member of the Gitchi Gummi Sport Association, comprised of Cross-Country Skiers and Biathletes from all across the US. Olympians and amateurs training together under the direction of Russian Coach Nikolai Anikin.
As a biathlete, Ben competed seriously for 13 years, and now competes for the fun and exercise. He had many opportunities through the US Biathlon Association to travel and compete around the world including Germany and Russia.
Residing in Minneapolis the past 7 years, Ben has been coaching for over a decade. As a part of Gitchi Gummi, he would help run clinics across the region, and in 1998 began regularly coaching young biathletes. Many of those athletes are still participating today, and doing quite well.
